2023 06 ex Adria Alpe trail ff Day 17 At 12 pm Gee said she heard horses trotting on the pavement, when she woke me. I checked to see the horses and saw a white figure standing, where the horses were supposed to be. My GPS tracker said, the horses are within their fence. So we went back to sleep. Then 30 minutes later my phone rang twice and I figured something was amiss. It was a local number and when i answered, Max was on the phone, asking me if i wasen t missing any horses. Confused i went to check and yes the fence was broken, and the horses were gone. He had them secured and asked where we were at and that he would pick us up with his car. We had the horses fenced in with our electrical fencing, Mansu had a GPS tracker on his neck and both of them are wearing a tag with my phone number. What I had mistakenly seen as my grey horse, was the white watertank standing at the edge of the field. Max picked us up and drove us into town where some people were holding our horses. We thanked them and guided our horses back to where we slept. Why did my GPS not respond, when they left the fenced area. And why did they run anyway. `? Well on the way back i realized that the GPS tracker was no longer on Mansus Neck and must have been left in the field. And the swishing sound of the watering canons, was the reason they had taken off, when they started working around 12 pm. We refenced them farther away from the canons and i put my mat down, in front of the field. At dawn I went looking for the GPS tracker and yes there it was, laying in the field, the plastic peace broken. We saddled the horses and were off riding up the road to Stelvio Pass 25 km up the mountain. The horses did well, trotting and walking for 3,5 hours till we reached the summit where we run into a bicyle race. Wonderfully quiet without any cars or motor cycles we led the horses down the other side, drinking some coffe on top of the pass. Leading them down towards Umbrail pass, we turned off to reach Bocceta di Forcola, another overpass, that would lead us into the Val Fraele We had some lunch from our food box at the Malga on the trail down and at the first rifugio down az the lake we had a beer, the horses grazing in the near field. One hour later we trotted along the lake to reach my friend Severin at San Giacomo, where we would spend the night. |
