2Z023 06 23 ex Alpe Adria trail ff day 16. At 5 am ightning and thunder were only seconds apart when I woke and packed up my stuff. The horses were calm and dosing but allert when first lightning hit. I got everything up to the hut and 15 min later the host opened the restaurant door and offered some coffee, which I gladly accepted. The cheese maker arrived also and Gee joined us a little later. We got the horses out of their fencing and brought them up to the shed where our stuff was stored. We checked the shoes and I had to to renail Mansu back right shoe that shifted back on the trail up the Tatscher pass yesterday, cause I only used 5 nails instead of 6 hoping it would work. Well it did not. Lesson learned. He uses his hind feet extensively. And that is actually a good thing. It is just hard on the shoes of his back feet.  After that we walked the horses down to the Vinschgau valley riding up to Prato at the foot of the Stelvio pass. After about 38 km we were in Prato and at the first farmhouse we asked about a field for the horses. The young farmer was happy to show us a field that was fenced in on 3 sides and there was a watertank. His girlfriend wanted to ride one of the horses but Mansu was much more interested in the green than obeying the new rider.
We put the the GPS on Mansu and walked into town to get something to drink and have an early dinner. We will sleep above a pig shed next to the field the horses are on and will be leaving early tomorrow morning.
Gee met some fellow people from her home town and we spent some time swaping stories and drinking beer. At 6 pm we got our meals and as it was getting dark we returned to the camp.
