We were not in a hurry to get up. Meret wanted to be woken up by the sun. I fixed some open seams of my saddlebags, boiled water for a cup of coffee on the little gas burner. We had permission to camp but without fire. The prior day smoke from large fire had rolled up the valleys, later we were told a camping place had burned down. What a pity, it takes Years to grow a tree in this climate and without shade no camping. Chilene gauchos here called Huasos drove horses down the valley passing us and I realized some of them were hobbled. I wondered about that, but there were some real nice horses among them. One of the leading Huaso stopped to chat with Meret and Bernardo. Later after Koffee and breakfast we rode down to the lake and took a quick Swimm in the refreshing water. Getting dressed and back upon the horses we rode past a big camp where all the horses we had seen, stood saddled and tied at some bushes. At a big rock a fire was still burning, and people were loading stuff into boxes, to be loaded unto the horses later. Further down the sandy Canyon we run into the riders on food, they would probably get back on once the steep part was done. A couple of hours later we saw metal roofs blinking in the sunlight and the trail turned into a dirt road. Along plantations of fruit trees and bungalows with swimming pools we descended towards the village of Colorado. A locked gate prevented us getting into civilization, but Bernardo had organized the right phone number, so a couple minutes later a girl on a 4wheeler shows up and opens the gate. We are greeted by Luco the owner of a trail riding business
And here we parked our horses in wooden stables and assembled our gear next to the bath house. We were looking forward to a beer and some lunch and we found the restaurant the Huaso at the lake had obviously mentioned as the one his sister was running. We got a dark beer, the only one available, some goat stew and mashed potatoes and tomato salad. Happy we ventured on finding another restaurant with an open terrace where we were able to get some more local beer of the lighter kind. We met Pino an Architect and his wife, later Kate from GB and her Chilene Husband joined us and after we had our fill and a Chilene Hamburger with tons of Quaco Mole we were invited to Pino for coffee and cake. We enjoyed their company till late and the went back to where the horses where and unrolled our mats and sleeping bags in front of the stables.
